Dr. Ursula Balthazar: Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

Dr. Balthazar

Dr. Balthazar is thrilled to be the newest member of the AWC team.  She is new to Alaska but not to the winter as she was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois.  After graduating from medical school at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, she traveled to North Carolina for her post-graduate training.  Dr. Balthazar completed her residency in OB/GYN at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Following residency she stayed in Chapel Hill for a three year fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.  She is proud to be Alaska’s first physician in Reproductive Medicine.

Infertility specialists complete additional training (often known as a "fellowship") in the sub-specialty field of reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) after completing a 4 year residency in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Balthazar offers comprehensive fertility evaluation and treatment options. Common treatment options include ovulation induction, superovulation, gonadotropins, and intrauterine insemination (IUI).  She also performs minimally invasive surgery for fibroids, endometriosis, and correction of uterine anomalies.

Dr. Balthazar is married and has one daughter.  Her husband is a Major in the Air Force and is a physician at Elmendorf AFB.  She enjoys photography, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Treva Mickeal: Dedicated Fertility Nurse

Treva
After serving as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy, and an EMT in Denver, Treva received her BSN from the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley in 1999. Prior to joining the AWC team, Treva worked in both the pre- and post-operative units for 10 years in addition to being an Adjunct faculty with the UAA School of Nursing.

Treva has a personal interest in the field of infertility, and enjoys the relationships she builds with patients during their pursuit of starting a family.

Treva is the proud mother of an 18 year old daughter who will be off to college in the fall. She is active in her church activities and in her spare time enjoys quilting, knitting and fishing. She feels that the similarities between Alaska and her home state of Colorado are what brought her here for an adventure; but have kept her here as a home for 12 years.
